Kia ora, nice to meet you . I'm

Hands-on Software Engineering Leader Mobile · Frontend · Backend Services · Cloud · Auckland

My CV tells you what I've done. This site tells you who I am.

I'm a hands-on software engineering leader with 12+ years of building mobile, frontend, backend services and cloud software, and growing the people who build it with me. Away from the keyboard, you'll find me on stage at Toastmasters, debating ideas at my book club, or playing futsal with friends. I've recently made Auckland home, and I'd love to bring the same curiosity and warmth to my next team.

LocWaker: a location-based alarm

An Android app I built on weekends that sounds an alarm when you reach a destination you've chosen, picked on a map, from your current location or from saved places.

It runs as a background service on location updates and is battery-optimised, so the screen never has to stay awake while it watches for your stop.

Built for personal use and published on Google Play; it has since been retired as I'm no longer maintaining it.

    IDEALIZE 2025

I started coding at 15 and began my software engineering career at 18, so judging the next generation of builders means a lot to me. I returned to the University of Moratuwa, my MBA alma mater, to represent Creative Software on the IDEALIZE 2025 judging panel, a mobile and web development competition run by AIESEC, evaluating student apps on technical depth, UX and real-world impact.

  • Speaking at Creative TechTalk · March 2023

    Speaker Mar 2023

    Creative TechTalk: Taking the leap

A talk on .NET MAUI: UI customisation, native platform APIs, and architecting and migrating mobile apps. Co-presented with a software engineering intern I mentored.

  • Visiting Lecturer 2022

About me

The person behind the CV

I'm Jayasai, Jay to most people: a Sri Lankan-born, hands-on software engineering leader now living in Auckland. I love turning messy problems into calm, working software, mentoring the next generation of engineers, and finding my voice at Toastmasters.

Engineer and leader who loves connecting with people.

In the next few years
Build software that helps people take their next step, and grow the engineers who build it with me, bringing my mobile, frontend, backend and cloud experience to an Auckland team as a hands-on software engineering leader.
5+ years
Grow into engineering leadership, building the kind of teams people remember working in.

Toastmasters journey

From nervous first speech to first place

My very first speech won Best Speaker. It was the moment I realised public speaking was a skill I could build, not a talent I lacked. Eight years on, I'm still building it.

  1. 2021

SpeechCraft @ Camms · the company's first Toastmasters SpeechCraft programme

  2. 2023

    Readers Toastmasters

  3. Aug 2026

Innovative Minds Toastmasters · Monthly Debating Forum and Project Speech

  4. Oct 2026

1st Place, Club Evaluation Contest · advanced to the Area Contest

Evaluating a speech well means listening closely, finding what works and giving feedback people can act on. It's the same skill I use when coaching engineers.

Beyond work

Away from the keyboard

Books, karate, futsal, good coffee and a very fluffy supporter. The things that keep me curious.

  • An evening session at Pick a Book

    Books

    Pick a Book

A member of Pick a Book, a community book club in Sri Lanka where we read, present and debate ideas together. Sharing a book with a room of curious readers keeps me learning outside tech.

    Martial arts

    Budo-Camp 2017

Karate taught me discipline, focus and respect long before I led teams. In 2017 I was part of the 26th International Budo-Camp in Sri Lanka, training alongside martial artists and masters from around the world.

  • Staying active

    Futsal and karate

Futsal with the Creative Software team, and karate. I've also volunteered at youth and martial arts exhibitions.

  • Soaking up ideas at TEDx

I love listening to leaders. A great TEDx talk sends me home with one idea I can't stop thinking about.

Meet my best (and fluffiest) supporter, pictured here as a puppy.

  • Coffee

    Coffee, taken seriously

My love for coffee went far enough that I completed a barista coffee-making course. Fair warning: if your office has a coffee machine, consider me your unofficial barista.

Team & culture

Strong teams are built off the screen as much as on it. Two days at Avani, Kalutara with fellow Team Leads and the Ops team: endurance challenges, paintball and problem-solving under pressure.

Curious beyond code

How real products are made

In 2026 I completed four Industrial Development Board of Ceylon workshops on export procedures, food and beverage processing, and print production. Understanding how real products are made and shipped helps me build software that fits real businesses.

  1. Heat Transfer Sticker Making for Screen Printing (& DTF)
  2. King Coconut Water Bottling Technology for the Export Market
  3. Value-added Tea Manufacturing
  4. Food Export Procedure
